Johnny Dalton began coonhunting with farmers in his home county of Lunenburg, Virginia, at a young age, striking out on his own when he got his drivers license in 1978. He bought his first coon dog in 1984 and started Dalton Farms, his initial hunting supply business, in 1986. Just a year later, Redgy and Wynell Ramsey founded Valley Creek Hunting Supply in Whitesboro, Texas. Johnny and the Ramseys moved on parallel tracks for years, crossing paths on occasion at hunts, until in 2011, Johnny worked with Redgy and Wynell to create Valley Creek East, becoming the Ramseys' East Coast hunting supply connection.

Through the years, Johnny's other passions included farming and softball, and those continue to this day, now shared with wife, Dixie, who joined the family in 2009. Johnny and Dixie met on a softball field in the 1970's, but their lives took different paths for a number of years. When their paths re-crossed decades later, it was a perfect partnership in every way.

When Redgy and Wynell decided to step out of the hunting supply business at the end of 2014 to devote themselves full time to the leadership of the new Coonhunters Kennel Club, it just seemed natural that Johnny be the one to take over the business. Johnny and Dixie are excited to continue the legacy of Valley Creek Hunting Supply and to continue to meet the needs of hunters throughout the country.
